HTS-735-11 Used on a Prop Repair

I knew better, but I took my boat out on the river when it was too low. About a mile from the launch ramp, I went through about 50 yards of rocks. It destroyed my propeller. See pics. But never fear, I broke out the oxy-acet rig w/ a #4 rosebud with this rod and a few days. I pre-tinned the back and the front of all 4 blades. About half inch or so. I got a piece of 16 ga carbon steel sheet metal. Curved it so it matches the blades. At this point I didn’t need the big torch. Turbo torch w/ mapp gas is all I needed. The area to be repaired needs to be level. Then heat and puddle HTS-735-II. Always put more on than you need. Then grind to shape the metal back into a propeller. Always pre-tin the aluminum. The key is patience. Be safe.
Oh yea the prop works great. Saved me $350 bucks.

One common issue that continues to come up is using HTS-735-11 is not welding. True we are not melting the parent metal which is what is commonly called welding. HTS-735-11 is Brazing or Soldering both are processes of joining metals. The meaning of the term “WELD” as stated in dictionary is a (verb to unite or fuse (as pieces of metal) by hammering, compressing, or the like, especially after rendering soft or pasty by heat, and sometimes with the addition of fusible material like or unlike the pieces to be united). The term WELD simply means joining.

The second issue that follows is strength.” It cannot be strong if you braze or solder because the parent metal was not melted in the process”. Well none of the persons that raise this concern have ever used HTS-735-11 or used it incorrectly. I can make it not work too!!! The number one issue for failure is working with the HTS-735-11 rod in or too close to the flame.

Second issue is when joining two pieces BOTH pieces MUST be heated to 735 degrees F. How do you know that? Well the HTS-735-11 rod melts at 735 degrees so you can use the rod to determine the temperature, NO GUESS WORK INVOLVED!!! Once the 735 degree temperature is achieved lower the heat by pulling the torch away from the area just enough to maintain the temperature, then you can take your time and make the repair or join pieces. Let it weld slow cool, never cool with water.

I recommend you practice first if you have not used a torch much. A soda can is a great way to improve your skills. If you can keep the rod flowing on the can for 30 second to a minute without burning a hole in the can and keeping the rod liquid, you will have no problems using HTS-735-11. It is as easy as riding a bike, just takes a little practice. Anyone can weld aluminum with a propane torch!!

There are 19 videos on YouTube Channel showing different applications and demonstrating the strength. Click here to go to the Channel

HTS-735-11 Blog is
for general discussion and questions regarding the Second Generation Fluxless
Aluminum Brazing Rod HTS-735-11 which came out in 1996, is sold exclusively by
Pro Marketing Services LLC from our website Aluminum-weld.com. Made in the USA. Anything else is something else.

The person that came up with it owned a auto repair garage
and was using some similar type rods for AC line repairs but was having a very
difficult time getting it to work on the dirty aluminum because the first generation
rod contains aluminum. He and others
came up with the idea that removing the aluminum would help solve this issue. A
couple years later HTS-735-11 with no aluminum and containing 9 different
metals came into existence.

So what does
HTS-735-11 stand for? HTS is short for HIGH TENSILE STRENGTH, 735 is the
melting point, and 11 means second generation.
What is second generation advantage? No aluminum in HTS-735-11 as in
similar rods that are still available, why is that important? Well aluminum is
a difficult metal to work with, and is becoming more and more popular due to
new different alloys coming out, its’ light weight and strength. To weld or braze aluminum is must be very
clean and special gases and welding equipment is required. All aluminum tells
you is it is too late as there is no color change with temperature change, so
it just melts and falls away without much warning for those with no training
and skills.

HTS-735-11 melts 500
degrees below the melting point of aluminum (500 degrees before it is too late)
giving the average person a great advantage. No aluminum in HTS-735-11 means
there is not an aluminum to aluminum bond to worry about so you do not need
special gasses or equipment to repair or join aluminum parts. Also HTS-735-11 will works on less than
perfectly clean aluminum and on all aluminum alloys, plus most non-ferrous metals like copper,
brass, magnesium, and cast aluminum. Videos can be seen on youtube search
HTS-735-11 on youtube. No flux is needed.

So now the average can save time and money by doing their
own repairs or build things using aluminum, all that is needed is a torch that
can heat the aluminum to 735 degrees. Propane may not be hot enough for large
or thick aluminum parts. There is Mapp Gas,
Oxygen Acetylene, and different torch tips available.
